House Fire Saga Update #3 - June 21, 2019

Update May 2020 - I'm currently going back through my Facebook posts and deciding what I want to leave up for public consumption and what I want to leave private (mostly photos of family that I don't want to leave accessible forever). I thought posting the text of those posts, along with some of the photos I'm okay with leaving public, here on the blog and backdating the posts to the days they went up would be a good alternative.

House fire saga update #3:

I know a lot of people are asking about how they can help, but part of the reason we're having trouble saying what is needed is that basic and immediate needs are being met (Y'all don't even know all the ways God has been making that happen). As far as other needs are concerned - if you would like to help, but are not sure how, you can contact Laveen Baptist Church to see what is needed.

Friends who attend New Life Baptist Church in Phoenix with us who want to help can also contact Tony or Sarah Lineberger.

Lastly, and I cannot say this enough, thank you family, friends, and Laveen community at large. We are overwhelmed (in the best way possible) with the love, the support, and the help you have been and continue to offer.

Metaphors: Candles

I've recently fallen in love with candles. Since coming home from the World Race , I've bought at least one a month. My favorite candles are the ones that come in glass jars - because when they burn out, I can clean the remaining wax out and put the jars to other uses. Right now, that means they get cleaned out and packed away in anticipation of my move to Flagstaff. But as I was lighting one tonight (vanilla spice... Thanksgiving smells? Yes, please!), I saw a metaphor for writing flickering away in the flame licking at the wick and melting the wax. I suppose it could be a metaphor for life in general, but since the theme of this blog is writing... Well, you do the math.

[Five Minute Friday] Purpose

Fiber bars, strewn along the side of the road. There had to be at least a dozen of them, still in their wrappers and completely unopened. No box in sight. Really? That's about the reaction my younger sister and I had when we stumbled on them on our early morning run. Really? along with disgusted sighs about the wastefulness of it. I've been hesitant to write this post. That is due, in large part, to how angry I get some days after reading book review requests. I curse, I rant, I snark.
