Book Review: Thinkers

Happy Thursday! Welcome to the end of February and another end of the month book review. Today, I'm reviewing the first in a sci-fi/fantasy trilogy that deals with strange disappearances, a secret facility, and a young woman trying to find the truth about what happened to her. If this story sounds good to you and you're interested in my thoughts on it, keep reading! Disclaimer Tag: The book for this month's review was provided to me for free by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review of their work. Thinkers Kierra Joy, 2018 Summary: Weeks after disappearing without a trace, Jade Wesley mysteriously returns to the site she was taken from with no memory of the time she's been gone. This is not the first time she's disappeared, though, and no one wants to believe her when she starts to remember - not without proof. Not her family, not her friends, and not her doctor. Once faced with the evidence, Jade's friends join her in her ques

Science Fiction through the Centuries - The 1600s

Sorry this is a day late - I had some things come up this week that knocked me off my blogging schedule. Unless something comes up again, I'll be back to my normal posting schedule next week. Series Introduction When I said in my 2019 overview that I'd be working on a blog series or two about the science fiction genre, this was not one of the series I meant. At the time I wrote it, I'd been trying to work out the logistics for a completely different series I was (and still am) committed to getting done. Then, about a week before the first in the series was set to go up, I saw an article on how a massive number of works copyrighted in 1923 were entering the public domain in the United States in 2019 (and what a huge deal it was because the last time anything did so was in the late 1990s). I thought, why not do a blog series on science fiction works from the early days that is likely to be in the public domain? Like any logical human being, I pushed the series I

Thursday Short Story - Untitled

Happy Thursday! It's been quite some time since I've dropped a short story on the blog, so I thought today (Valentine's Day or Singles Awareness Day, whichever one you're observing this year) would be a great day to share one I've written recently. A present for you, wherever you're at in life at the moment. Head's up before you start reading - this is not  the final draft. I don't have a title yet, and I'm still smoothing out its rough edges. Regardless... enjoy! -------------------- Untitled Of all the days and all the things to never see coming... I should know better than to speed walk with an overflowing cup of coffee from the breakroom back to the conference room. I'm supposed to be supervising Robin as he sets up for tomorrow's company-wide conference call, but I didn't have time this morning on the way in to the office to get my normal cup. And I needs my coffee. Thank you, random power outage, for forcing my

Five TV Shows That Made Me Fall In Love With Science Fiction

Happy Thursday! As an author (and reader), sometimes I feel like there's this unspoken rule when it comes to watching and talking about television and movies. The written word is always better, especially when the television show or movie in question is based on a book series.  Would it surprise you to find out, though, that I actually enjoy seeing stories adapted from a book/short story for television and movies? And would it shock to you find out that there are times when I think the adaptation is better than the original? Blasphemy, I know. One of the biggest reasons why I personally struggle with this unspoken rule is because when it comes to science fiction, my love of the genre started with watching television. Don't get me wrong, because there is nothing that can beat the way I feel when I get to curl up on the couch with a book and a cup of tea to read the day away, but... Television started my love of science fiction, so today I thought I should shar
